Kenyatta Johnson represents the Second Council District, serving over 150,000 residents in Center City, South, and Southwest Philadelphia. Johnson’s public service journey began with the founding of Peace Not Guns in 1998, following the tragic loss of his cousin to gun violence. Transitioning to state politics, he served as State Representative before joining City Council. Now in his third term, Johnson chairs the Council Special Committee on Gun Violence Prevention and the Committee on Rules and Transportation. A South Philadelphia native, Johnson is a graduate of the School District of Philadelphia and holds degrees from Mansfield University and the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government. He brings extensive experience from his work with AmeriCorps and City Year, as well as service in the Pennsylvania State Senate.
